A Maybach for under $54k. I’m sure the original owner loved that revelation.

Super-expensive luxury yachts always depreciate super-fast
New, unknown brands always depreciate super-fast
Dead brands always depreciate super-fast
This is the rare perfect storm, the intersection of all 3. Shoulda bought a Roller

Ohhhhh my god I've wanted one since they came out. What's basically a trumpified w220 sitting on a W140 platform? Fuck. Yes.

I can’t even make this up, I know someone who has a 57S that’s “saving” it because they’re not made any more, and they’ll “go up in value.”
Also, doesn’t have the stock interior....resale value?

Imagine replacing even a headlight cluster...

You should remind them that they don’t make chevettes and neons anymore either.

I'm sure anyone who could afford to buy this new doesn't really care about appreciation. Still crazy to think about!

I know it looks like a tarted up S-Class, which it basically is, but my god do I want one. All that comfort and all those little details for under the price of a K900. Sign me the hell up. Of course, when it breaks you’re absolutely, royally, unequivocally FUCKED.

Does Maybach count as new, unknown, or dead since they’re still working with Mercedes?
![]() 03/29/2016 at 00:31 |

They came from Mercedes, but so did Lexus and Scion and their value exists independently of the parent.
And yes I think they do count as dead, though they live on as a trim level. I think there’s a lot of stigma of owning a car from a dead brand, even if another vows to take on servicing. Even in this situation.

I guess they did go from “Maybach” to “Mercedes Maybach” didn’t they.

I have a visceral hatred for these things that I can’t explain, especially the two-toned ones. Maybe if I drove one? Still, the S63 seems the better bet, especially for the driver.

These things look so dated...

Yeah. Which opens up the uninformed to say things like “There are no more Maybach dealers, where are you going to get it serviced? How will you find parts? Remember SAAB?”

That’s not a Maybach.
This
is a Maybach

The interior is the only reason to have Maybach. They’re slow, you can’t hear the engine, they don’t handle, etc.

Omg this is an hour away. Who wants to buy my Porsche so I can live this dream?

Would you like some perspective? Performing every service item that’s due at every 4 year mark costs approximately $10,000 depending on a few things, geography and the shop itself mostly. 3 brake fluid reservoirs. 6 brake calipers. 2 SBC hydraulic brake units. ABC. Bi-turbo V12. Maybach parts prices. Every component stressed more than usual by the insane weight and extra heat.

These are still going for USD$125,000 in the U.K. for a 2004 plate 57 5.5.
I’d still rock one for long journeys to relax in.

In the guys defense, the leather was redone with black suede. Its a very impressive looking interior, I just know its not going back up in value for quite some time, and its not going to go back high enough to warrant keeping it, in my opinion.

Probably not. They use the depreciation method, over the standard mileage rate when it comes time to write it off. Majority of these we’re purchased as “business" vehicles.

You can get those for $80k and up. I’d rather that too.

Of course it’s dated. It’s 12 years old.

What’s the point of a 57 ? It feels the same as my S600 inside, it looks much worse than my S600 on the outside, and it costs over 3 times as much as my car.
